Caterina Barbieri (born 1990) is an Italian composer and musician currently based out of Milano, Italy. Prior to and concurrently with her early music career, Caterina studied electroacoustic composition as well as classical guitar at the Conservatory of Bologna, Italy, of which she earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in respectively. She has also earned a Bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy of Bologna with a thesis in Ethnomusicology about Hindustani music and minimalism. Caterina is particularly interested in creating music that explores consciousness and the psycho-acoustic effects of repetiton. Most of her composition make use of modular synthesis and was first inspired by the Buchla 200, though she has stated she is less interested in the hardware itself preferring to focus on the music. Often cited as a minimalist composer, she takes a no-frills approach towards composition. Of particular interest is how acoustic space impacts the quality and timbre of a piece and is integral to her approach in her craft. As of June 2021 she has released 1EP and 4LP's, one of which as a collaborative album.
